We are nearing the start of our Fall SLemester Experience, the 4 month learning community about the digital culture, using Second Life as our platform. We do still have a couple of seats open, and we're busy adding new activities and experiences to make this the best SLemester Experience so far!
The SLemester Experience is NOT just for newcomers to SL. Some of our best experiences have been with those who have been in SL for a while...who said the SLemester took them deeper than they ever imagined possible. While we do certainly spend time helping everyone become familiar with the "skills" needed for Second Life, our larger focus is on the issues of the emerging digital culture. Our goal is not an "orientation" into Second Life, but an "enculturation" into a flattened world, approaching a singularity that is impacting everything around us.
The only 'hard commitment" you make in the SLemester is to participate in a weekly, one hour live conversation around the topics that define the digital culture. From that point on, you will have access to a wide range of workshops, activities, meet & greet sessions with a range of 'experts' in SL and digital culture issues, AND you own plot of virtual land to get comfortable with during the length of the course.
The fall session of the SLemester Experience begins the week of September 7th, so if you are interested please drop me an email at: john@imagilearning.com, leave me a note here on the Ning site, or shout at me in-world!
I'll add one more note that I find the most exciting of all. Over the last couple of years we have been offering the SLemester, our participants have stayed around...formed new groups and activities, and have even joined with us now to add a 4th island which many of them now call "home". So becoming a part of the SLemester Experience also brings you in contact with a long-term community of learners, from education, business, and a wide range of other backgrounds. Our one common thread? We are excited about what the changes taking place bring us, and we want to be actively involved in them. We all invite you to join us!
