You make a number of good points here. "...the lesson underneath is all about leadership in a digital culture, plain and simple." I don't think the principles of leadership change much with a digital culture, but the way you do it changes.

I like your take on the situation: We chose opportunity. I read some of the articles and think that it is an opportunity for the SLed group. Keep the focus on what you want and don't get tied down in words.

Great post John about such an important case study. I agree that the core elements of true leadership definitely transcend politics, economics and national boundaries in our digital, global world where everyone is connected in so many ways. I prop...

Here It Comes Again...

It's time to brace yourself for another round of gloom and doom prophecy about Second Life! This latest round is being triggered by the announcement that Linden Labs has asked the "sleducation" wiki to change their name because the "SL" is in violation of the Linden trademark. Kudos to Jokay Wollongong, who decided to not enter into a major fight over this action, but that has not stopped the growing "Bad Linden...Bad!" scolding coming from educators and others in and around SL. And if history c… Continue

Leadership in A Digital Culture

The work of ImagiLearning, Inc is to support the efforts of individuals and groups who are attempting to learn how to adapt to the emerging digital culture. In this age of change, we focus on the elements of that change, rather than on pushing a particular agenda or philosophy 'about' that change. With that understood, I want to attempt to address an issue that could easily be interpreted as having some 'political' agenda...but that is not my motivation. First, I don't have a political agenda. S… Continue

There Is Pain In this Change

The State of Illinois is one of many that is struggling with budgets (and political agendas), with some very serious results. In June, several of my colleagues were laid off from our office, directly as a result of the actions and in-actions of the legislators. After two months now, we are beginning to see some return of budgets, as well as a couple of our colleagues. However, I have been impressed with the amount of pain that has been created, and which shows no real tendency to ease. While thi… Continue

My 10 Month Old Grandson: the Boy Genius!

Ok, I sound like any typical grandfather there don't I? "There is none smarter...or cuter...or...whatever, than my grandson!" Well, however true that may actually be...that's not really the point of this post. It's about "Genius".

This morning I stumbled across an article I've had on my laptop for a few months...in that folder I keep sticking things in that I really need to read "someday". It's an article by Thomas Armstrong, called "Awakening the Genius in the Classroom". I decided to skim it… Continue

One Week to GO!

We are nearing the start of our Fall SLemester Experience, the 4 month learning community about the digital culture, using Second Life as our platform. We do still have a couple of seats open, and we're busy adding new activities and experiences to make this the best SLemester Experience so far!

The SLemester Experience is NOT just for newcomers to SL. Some of our best experiences have been with those who have been in SL for a while...who said the SLemester took them deeper than they ever imagi… Continue

That's the formal titile. the opposite side of my card is Chief Overlord of Game-Based Learning.

Of course, it's superimposed over a Halo 3 shot.

I am very good - just got engaged in fact, so I am doing VERY good. Thanks for the invite...very cool. I just met with a guy today who has a whole list of people with money looking for projects to put it into {go figure}. I wanted to talk to you about maybe putting together an educational project that would go along nicely with a pile of money to fund it :)
